The Moyo Sinyoro totem is unique because of its oral history, which links the clan to a Portuguese ancestor who married a local princess. Because the 'heart' is their sacred symbol (mutupo), members are traditionally forbidden from eating the heart of any animal.
“The Shona cultural wisdom of the Moyo Sinyoro totem focuses on the heart as the center of life, teaching that the clan is essential and must hold the family and community together with care and courage.”
